Mass. weather: 5 maps to get you ready for weekend snow

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for parts of Massachusetts as the state braces for heavy snowfall over the weekend.

The National Weather Service has issued the advisory for Worcester County, Franklin County, Hampshire County, Hampden County and Berkshire County.

For Berkshire County, the advisory is in effect from 7 p.m. Friday to 1 a.m. Sunday, as the weather service predicts 2 to 6 inches of snow in the region.

For the rest of Western Massachusetts and Central Massachusetts, the advisory will go into effect overnight, from 1 a.m. Saturday to 5 p.m. Saturday, with snow accumulation expected to reach 2 to 4 inches.

The eastern part of the state could still see snow, but in more modest volume. Boston has a chance of snow showers Friday night, but the National Weather Service expects little to no accumulation. Continued snowfall on Saturday could bring less than a tenth of an inch.

Sunday could bring 1 to 3 inches in Boston and Cape Cod & the Islands.

The significant snowfall is set to begin after midnight, with most parts of the state waking up to more than an inch of accumulation on Saturday morning:

The snow will wane during the day on Saturday, clearing up in the eastern parts of the state and slowing significantly in Western Massachusetts:

Precipitation will pick up again on Sunday afternoon, dropping an additional 1 to 2 inches across the state from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.:

By Sunday night, the snowfall will have slowed in most of Central and Western Massachusetts, but in Boston, coastal towns and Cape Cod & the Islands, it will maintain its intensity through Sunday night:
