Breaking: Broncos QB Bo Nix suffers season-ending broken ankle

Denver Broncos starting quarterback Bo Nix broke his ankle during Saturday’s 33-30 overtime win over the Buffalo Bills in the divisional round of the NFL playoffs. Nix will undergo surgery and miss the rest of the postseason.
Broncos coach Sean Payton announced after the game that Nix fractured a bone in his right ankle on the second-to-last play of the game. The second-year QB is now scheduled to undergo surgery on Tuesday. Payton said backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham will start in the AFC Championship game next week.
Nix went 26-of-46 passing for 279 yards with three touchdowns and one interception on Saturday. He also rushed 12 times for 29 yards in the win.
Stidham, 29, is a seventh-year quarterback who has been a backup in Denver since 2023. He started the final two games of his first season with the Broncos after Russell Wilson was benched, and Denver went 1-1 in those contests.
In two starts with the Broncos, Stidham completed 60.6% of his passes for 496 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Sam Ehlinger is now in line to be bumped up from QB3 to QB2.
The Houston Texans and New England Patriots will face off in the AFC’s other divisional playoff game on Sunday. The winner of that game will advance to face Denver in the AFC Championship on Jan. 25.
