Report: Mets sign Bichette to three-year, $126M deal

Bo Bichette’s time with the Toronto Blue Jays is at an end.
The Athletic’s Will Sammon reports the 27-year-old shortstop has signed a three-year, $126 million deal with the New York Mets.

The deal comes with opt-outs after the both of the first two seasons.
Bichette is coming off a bounce-back campaign that saw him hit .311 with 18 home runs and 94 runs batted in. After struggling with injuries and poor performance in 2024, Bichette authored a season that earned him Most Valuable Player votes for the fourth time in his past five seasons.
Bichette hit one of the biggest home runs in Blue Jays franchise history in Game 7 of the World Series in November, launching a three-run shot off Shohei Ohtani to deep left field – despite playing with a significant knee injury – in a game that the Blue Jays would go on to lose 5-4 in 11 innings.
After the smoke cleared on the deepest playoff run in over 30 years, Bichette reiterated his intention to stay with the Blue Jays reporters.
“I’ve said I want to be here from the beginning,” Bichette said.
Since joining the organization in 2016 alongside Vladimir Guerrero Jr. – who signed a 14-year deal in April – the two have been tied together. They both debuted in 2019, and the pair formed the face of the future for the franchise following the Jose Bautista – Edwin Encarnacion – Josh Donaldson era.
In seven seasons with the Blue Jays, Bichette has hit .294 with 111 home runs and 437 runs batted in over 748 games. He is a two-time All-Star and has twice led the American League in hits.
The Bichette news comes hours after the Blue Jays missed out on free-agent outfielder Kyle Tucker, who signed an eye-watering four-year, $260 million deal with the Dodgers.
