Arsenal are still reeling from the missed opportunity against Nottingham Forest. With Manchester United triumphing over Manchester City at Old Trafford, Mikel Arteta’s squad had a golden chance to tighten their grip on the Premier League trophy.
A win against the relegation-battling Forest would have stretched the Gunners’ lead at the top of the table to a comfortable nine points. However, they were unable to penetrate Sean Dyche’s resilient side and had to settle for a solitary point.
As they grapple with their creative woes, more transfer gossip involving the club is circulating. Here, the Daily Star Sport takes a look at the latest Gunners news.
Chelsea set to deliver £52m transfer blow
Jeremy Jacquet has plenty of suitors(Image: )
Arsenal’s aspirations of signing Marc Guehi were dashed when the Englishman opted to join City. However, the Gunners had identified an alternative to the Crystal Palace captain in Rennes’ young defender Jeremy Jacquet.
Regrettably for them, Chelsea now appear to be in pole position to secure his services this month, with Team Talk reporting that the Blues are willing to exceed the £52million Man City shelled out for Jeremy Doku, making the 20-year-old their record sale.
If he decides to join Liam Rosenior’s team, it would be a significant setback for the north Londoners. Luckily for Arteta, central defence is one area where he has plenty of options.
William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes remain Arteta’s preferred centre-back pairing, whilst Riccardo Calafiori, Piero Hincapie, Cristhian Mosquera and Riccardo Calafiori are still part of the squad.
Anthony Gordon verdict

Reports from Caught Offside suggest that Anthony Gordon’s performances with Everton and Newcastle United have persuaded Arsenal that he possesses the quality to shine for the north London outfit. The England winger has been repeatedly linked with the Gunners in recent months.
Across all competitions, he’s managed eight goals and four assists and appears to be a perfect fit, with Arteta reportedly hunting for a fresh left-winger to bolster his ranks. Arsenal’s chances of securing his signature could be enhanced by Newcastle’s need to generate additional transfer funds to comply with Premier League PSR regulations.
A fortnight ago, Gordon responded to speculation linking him with Liverpool. He seemed to indicate his willingness to remain at Newcastle by delivering a glowing assessment of his spell at St. James’ Park.
He said: “It’s probably been the best three years I’ve had in football and in life, too – so it’s just a good time for me and my family. Hopefully there’s many more appearances and success here, too!”
