Students, teachers and staff in the Palm Beach County School District are looking forward to a three-day weekend, as the district will be closed on Monday, Jan. 19, because of the federal holiday honoring the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.

A series of events throughout the county will be held in honor of the late civil rights leader, including the MLK Coordinating Committee’s annual scholarship breakfast at the Palm Beach County Convention Center. Proceeds from the breakfast, which is supported by the Black Chamber of Commerce of the Palm Beaches, go toward scholarships for local students and grants to community groups.

Following Martin Luther King Day, district students will also have a day off on Wednesday, Feb. 18.
