Good Question: Does FCPS have a set outside temperature or wind chill that school is canceled?

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – With cold weather affecting the region, parents often wonder what temperature triggers school closures.
Today’s Good Question is: Does Fayette County Schools have a set outside temperature or wind chill that school is canceled?
They do have a temperature that they look at, but it doesn’t mean they’ll automatically close schools.
A spokesperson with Fayette County Schools says if they expect a wind chill of -10 degrees, that is when they will evaluate a temperature related closing. Notice they didn’t say it would automatically be a closing.
No state mandate
There is no state law or policy that mandates when schools must close for the cold. And checking with schools in our area they seem to have their own policies.
Madison County says they do not have a specific temperature to cancel classes or call for an NTI day.
And Clark County’s chief operations officer said there is not a specific number. They consider things like the actual temperature, wind chill, warnings issued from the NWS, and is there snow already on the ground/roads, and will it impact buses.
