NWS forecasts major storm this weekend. How bad will it be in Ohio?

Just days after winter weather triggered a 100-car pileup on a Michigan interstate, winter storm Fern (as named by The Weather Channel) is expected to hit the Buckeye State the weekend of Jan. 24. The Arctic blast will bring blankets of snow, strong winds and freezing temperatures — especially on Sunday, Jan. 25.
According to the National Weather Service offices in Wilmington and Cleveland, Ohio is likely to see a drop in temperatures beginning Friday, Jan. 23.
“A strong Arctic high pressure system will build over the Great Lakes Friday through Saturday night,” according to the National Weather Service in Cleveland.

Ohio could see up to 4 inches of snow this weekend
Wintry precipitation is expected to reach the Ohio Valley by Sunday, Jan. 25, according to the NWS, with possible heavy snow.
Ohio may see 0.5 to 0.75 inches per hour on Wednesday, Jan. 21, with brief higher amounts possible, according to the National Weather Service. Some parts of Ohio may see freezing drizzle or light mixed precipitation late Wednesday night, Jan. 21, before colder air moves back in.
Once we get to the weekend, Ohio could see 2 inches of accumulation, with some areas of the state seeing up to 4 inches total, according to the NWS’ Probabilistic Precipitation Portal.
