Exclusive Update: Yasper Asprilla To Celtic Latest

Celtic remain in the mix to land highly-rated winger Yaser Asprilla.

The Girona attacker, 22, is on the Hoops’ shortlist as a possible incoming this winter window.

I understand the Scottish giants have approached Asprilla’s club to learn their position on the player and have been told a loan move will likely be sanctioned.

The issue for Celtic is that more than 10 other clubs are also believed to have made the same approach to his club.

It’s understood clubs in La Liga, the EFL Championship and elsewhere around Europe are keen to land the attacker.

Asprilla is a playmaker who is known for his flair and creativity. He has not reached his potential yet having cost his side as much as £16million in 2024.

One source described Asprilla as a “very, very good player” who would “walk it” in the Scottish Premiership.

I understand neither Girona nor the player himself have made any decision on his loan destination at this time.

And while there may only be nine days left of the window, Girona don’t feel that they have to rush into anything.

Celtic are in the market for a wide player and have attempted to sign Jesurun Rak-Sakyi on loan with an option to buy from Crystal Palace.

The Eagles, however, want an obligation inserted instead due to financial fair play regulations.

Martin O’Neill recently revealed Jota won’t play again this season which has expedited Celtic’s need.

And they will hope their long-standing relationship with City Football Group – of which Girona are a valued member club – can potentially help their cause.

Celtic got a draw in Italy on Thursday night, the game ending 2-2 against Bologna. The bhoys will now have a quick turn around before the game on Sunday against Hearts at Tynecastle. New loan striker Tomas Cvancara will be available, but it’s unlikley any more deals will be done before then.
