The Cirencester area is no stranger to famous faces, with A-list names like Nick Knowles, Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen and Ellie Goulding all having owned properties in or around the town. And the latest edition to the star-studded set is none other than Oasis frontman, Liam Gallagher.

The 53-year-old Britpop singer was reported at the end of 2025 to have purchased the £4.25 million Dockem House in the village of Coates, just four miles outside of Cirencester town centre.

The sprawling property was previously owned by former Arsenal captain and manager, Tony Adams, who bought Dockem House more than 20 years ago in 2002.

The house sits just on the edge of Coates, which has a population of around just 500 people. And while they are no strangers to celebrities living nearby, residents said there is still an ‘air of excitement’ around their newest neighbour.

Jan Edmonds, who has lived in the village for 12 years and runs the monthly Coffee, Cake and Chat mornings at the village hall, said: “There is a certain air of excitement and anticipation. He’s a celebrity that most people know about, of all generations.

“It’s a friendly village so we’ll make him welcome. I’m sure he’ll have a very nice time here, even if it’s just his country residence. And we’ll be excited if we see him and his family.

“People are very respectful generally, and it’s a friendly community here as well. There are lots of nice functions that happen, there’s a bar next door so he may pop in for a drink, you never know. That’d be very exciting.

“He’s more than welcome to come to Coffee, Cake and Chat once a month, and we would play Oasis music for him on Spotify,” she joked.

“Tony Adams was the previous owner, and he got a little bit involved in village life, so we’ll wait and see. He’s going to be in an area which is close to the village but at the same time quite private, so he’ll be given the privacy that he needs.

“I do think it’s a positive thing. I’m sure anything that happened in his younger years, he’s a more mature man now. And if we get invited to any of his midnight parties we’ll go along, for sure.”

Meanwhile, Paul Stephenson, who was out walking his dog, quipped: “As an Arsenal fan I was gutted to see Tony Adams leaving, to be replaced by a Man City fan.

“But it’s good. We’ve got quite a number of high-value properties here in the village, but we don’t really see the people that live there. There’s so many celebrities in this area that you get to the stage where you just think, ‘Oh, cool’.

“It depends on how much he gets involved in the local village. We’ve got a lovely village hall here – I can’t imagine we’ll be seeing him down there for quiz night, although if we do, that’s great. It’s a beautiful village, it’s a lovely place to live.

“I understand he’s got dogs, in which case we might see him out on a dog walk occasionally. But yeah, good for him. He’s got a nice house there, by the looks of it. If that’s how he wants to spend his millions and millions of pounds, then fair enough.”

And another village hall volunteer, who gave his name only as Anthony, said: “It’s just another person in the village that we probably won’t hear about. We’ve had a few people around here with a lot of wealth, but they come and go. We don’t really discuss it much.

“Tony Adams was there, and we didn’t see much of him. He walked his dog in the mornings. He was a nice enough chap, but he didn’t get involved in the village, really.

“I’ve no idea whether Liam Gallagher will be the same. He might chuck a few million pounds towards getting us a new village hall, that’d be nice, but I doubt it.

“It’s an interesting village, it’s a good mix of people, really. People come and go, but we love it here.”

Another Coates resident, who did not wish to give her name, said: “He’ll love living here, I’m sure.

“We’re a lovely, lovely village, and everybody who has come to live in the village has always been made so welcome. I’m sure he will be absolutely fine here.

“Tony Adams has been part of the village for so long now and he’s been so involved in various things, that we’ll be just as welcoming for anybody else. Everybody will be fine and he will be fine.”

However, one man in the village was less enthused, simply saying: “Oh, that idiot? I don’t like him, I can’t stand Oasis. But I’m not bothered where he lives.”
