Mamdani roasted for ‘idiotic and moronic’ warning on NYC snowstorm

For some, Mayor Zohran Mamdani has already failed when it comes to what is traditionally a big test for New York City mayors: dealing with a major snowstorm.

The new mayor is getting roasted online after issuing a warning about the massive snow event that’s coming this weekend, the New York Post reported.

“NYC is forecasted to get 3–16 inches of snow this weekend. And we’re ready,” Mamdani wrote on X on Thursday afternoon as part of a post on the city’s prep for the storm.

NYC is forecasted to get 3–16 inches of snow this weekend. And we’re ready.

We’ll issue a Code Blue later today, and outreach workers will ramp up efforts to connect unhoused New Yorkers to safe shelter.

Tomorrow, we’ll begin pre-snow treatment, brining highways and major…

“3-16, way to narrow down the forecast,” one user on X commented.

“Saying that NYC is going to get between 3 and 16 inches of snow is nonsense,” another said. “That tells you absolutely nothing. Citing numbers with a probability range of 5% to 95% is idiotic and moronic.”

“Maybe they forgot the 1 in front of the 3? Idk?” said another snarky commenter.

The Post said that the five boroughs were already under a winter storm watch, issued by the National Weather Service, calling for 6-12 inches of snow when Mamdani posted his statement.

Current forecasts call for anywhere from 8-14 inches of snow to fall on the city this weekend.

New York City mayors in the past have been lambasted for poor reactions to snowstorms.

Mayor Bill de Blasio was scorched in 2014 when Islanders railed that plows and salters were slow to the rescue after a big snowstorm.

Mayor John Lindsay got clobbered when the city was slow to react to a 1969 snowstorm.

And Mayor Michael Bloomberg took a pounding when the city flubbed the 2010 Christmas blizzard.

That was the year that Bloomberg pushed back against critics who said that the city was slow to react to the storm, saying that “The city is going fine. Broadway shows were full last night.”
