The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) is seeking public comment on the District of Columbia agency’s $4.8 billion capital and operating budget proposal for fiscal-year 2027.
The agency’s plans for the year call for advancing more efficient service through bus scheduling, train automation and changes to six-car and eight-car trains designed to improve reliability and travel times.
Proposed service improvements include WMATA Metrorail increases in weekday, evening and late-night frequency and added peak-period capacity. Fares will not increase, according to a WMATA press release.
Major capital program investments to improve service and customer experience include rail cars and rail facilities, rail systems, track and structures rehabilitation, station and passenger facilities.
Online comments on the budget are due Feb. 10. Public feedback will be provided to WMATA’s board in March.
