First Alert Weather Day: Cold Weather Advisory remains in place as heavy rain moves across Alabama

A First Alert Weather Day today is due to a Winter Weather Advisory for isolated counties in our area.

While a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through noon today for Marion, Lamar, Fayette, Winston, Walker, Cullman counties and Cherokee county in northeast Alabama, so far our temps have been well above freezing this morning. While rain can present its own challenges with slick spots, at least we’re not seeing any frozen precipitation in these areas at this time.

The Winter Weather Advisory could very well be cancelled before Noon if conditions continue to improve.

Rain will likely continue in our area through this afternoon, but models show most of it should be pushing to the east and out of our area by 3p.m.

Temperatures this afternoon should warm into the mid-to-upper 50s.

Also, while we earlier reported the threat of severe storms today, that threat appears to have moved south of our area.

First Alert Weather Days continue due to a Cold Weather Advisory from midnight tonight to 10 a.m. Monday, and a Cold Weather Advisory from 9 p.m. Monday to 9 a.m. Tuesday

Tonight – First Alert Weather Day

Much colder air arrives quickly tonight. With wet roads from today’s rain, a rapid drop in temperatures could lead to flash freeze conditions. Black ice may develop on bridges and untreated roads late tonight into early Monday morning. A Cold Weather Advisory is in effect, with temperatures dropping well down into the teens for many spots and even colder readings possible in northern areas.

Monday stays cold and dry with plenty of sunshine. Even with the sun, temperatures will struggle to warm much. Monday remains a First Alert Weather Day due to the ongoing Cold Weather Advisory and dangerous cold conditions.

Monday night – First Alert Weather Day

Another very cold night is expected across central Alabama. A Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect as temperatures drop back into the teens and possibly colder in a few locations.
