Nova Scotia’s Black beats Alberta’s Sturmay at Scotties Tournament of Hearts
MISSISSAUGA — Nova Scotia’s Christina Black defeated Alberta’s Selena Sturmay 9-6 on Sunday morning at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts.
Black, who reached the final of the Olympic Trials last November, scored three points in the fifth end and added three more in the seventh.
In other early games, Manitoba’s Beth Peterson rolled to a 13-3 victory over New Brunswick’s Melodie Forsythe and Nunavut’s Julia Weagle topped Prince Edward Island’s Amanda Power 8-5.
Northern Ontario’s Krista Scharf posted a 12-5 win over Mackenzie Mitchell of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Black, Peterson and Scharf lead the Pool B round-robin standings at 2-0.
Two more sessions were scheduled for later in the day at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre. Competition continues through Feb. 1.
