Maple Leafs’ Jacob Quillan replaces Calle Jarnkrok against Avalanche

The Leafs coach went with a new-look lineup for Sunday’s game, promoting Scott Laughton to the second line with John Tavares and Bobby McMann. Matthew Knies was moved back up to the top line with Auston Matthews and Max Domi.

With Laughton getting promoted to the second line, Matias Maccelli got bumped down to the third line with Nicolas Roy and Nick Robertson. This led to Easton Cowan shifting down to the fourth line with Quillan and Steven Lorentz.

Quillan, who has appeared in three games this season, has not suited up for the Maple Leafs since Dec. 30 against the New Jersey Devils. He is yet to record a point over four career NHL contests.

Jarnkrok, 34, has six goals and one assist in 34 games on the season.

The Maple Leafs will turn back to Joseph Woll in net two days after Anthony Stolarz returned from a lengthy injury layoff and allowed six goals in a loss to the Vegas Golden Knights.

Toronto (24-18-9) enters action Sunday five points behind the Boston Bruins for the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference.

The Avalanche (34-6-9) lead the league with 77 points.
