Bruins coach tells his team to treat Lane Hutson like Cale Makar

We once thought Lane Hutson was light years ahead of Cale Makar.

That’s no longer the case. Sure, Makar is the best defenseman in the NHL, but the Habs’ protégé isn’t too far behind, at least offensively.

The CH’s 48 is just three points behind Makar for first place among NHL defensemen.

Hutson’s second-year jinx is a thing of the past.

The left-hander is so much on the minds of other teams that Bruins head coach Marco Strum told his troops to treat him as if he were Makar.

No pressure, kid.

Boston Bruins coach Marco Sturm today on Lane Hutson:

“I’m not saying I’m gonna compare him to Cale Makar but I always say to my guys: you gotta treat him like that. His skating ability, he’s very shifty, he’s up the ice, he does it in the zone. He wants to beat you one-on-one.”… pic.twitter.com/18HnzPZ92E

It’s a good thing Sturm started off by saying he didn’t want to compare the two defensemen…

In any case, the captain of tonight’s Habs opponents had some very good words for Hutson. He said, among other things, that his players should always be worried when he’s on the ice, because he’ll always try to beat you one-on-one.

Once again, what a choice by the organization to select him 62nd.

– Still.

A unilingual English introduction to the @Senators game honoring an important Franco-Ontarian figure, Jacques Martin. Not a word in French has yet been uttered to the crowd or even in the players’ excerpts. This is not an isolated case this season. #sens
