Taylor Sheridan’s ‘The Sopranos’ Replacement Dominates Global Streaming Charts

Tulsa King, Taylor Sheridan‘s take on the mob subgenre, which was popularized on television by The Sopranos, is a global streaming hit following a largely successful third season. The drama series is one of the top shows on streaming services in the US and globally. Data from FlixPatrol shows that the Sylvester Stallone-led crime series is a hit in many countries where it is available on both international and local streamers. In the Americas, it is the sixth-most-popular show on Paramount+. Tulsa King is one of Sheridan’s Paramount+ hits, though it doesn’t feature the typical Sheridan fare.
Stallone stars as Dwight “The General” Manfredi, a New York mafia capo who is exiled to Tulsa after serving 25 years in prison. Despite having been separated from society for a quarter of a decade, Dwight carves his own path in the supposedly derelict lands of Tulsa, Oklahoma. As he pulls himself up by the bootstraps, Dwight faces numerous challenges that he must deal with or risk being taken out. He does all this with his old school swagger, but that doesn’t stop him from learning the ways of the new world he has found himself in. Other cast members include Martin Starr (Lawrence “Bodhi” Geigerman), Jay Will (Tyson Mitchell), Garrett Hedlund (Mitch Keller), Dana Delany (Margaret Devereaux), Tatiana Zappardino (Tina Manfredi-Grieger), Annabella Sciorra (Joanne Manfredi), Neal McDonough (Cal Thresher), Frank Grillo (Bill Bevilaqua), Domenick Lombardozzi (Charles “Chickie” Invernizzi), Vincent Piazza (Vince Antonacci), Max Casella (Armand “Manny” Truisi), and Andrea Savage (Stacy Beale).
The General Will Return in ‘Tulsa King’ Season 4
The show was renewed for a fourth season that is currently in production. However, the upcoming season has been marred by behind-the-scenes drama with reports of a firing spree that cost production 26 crew members, including a showrunner. It was reported that the studio behind the show wanted to serve as the showrunner, despite the role traditionally being held by a human being. Showrunner duties have fallen to Scott Stone, an executive at 101 Studios. Meanwhile, a mini Boardwalk Empire reunion is set to happen with the addition of Gretchen Mol to Tulsa King Season 4. Mol and Piazza starred in the 2014 HBO series starring Steve Buscemi. Despite the confusion caused by the labor wrangles, production continues in Atlanta.
Tulsa King is expected to return later this year, but no exact date has been set yet. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
