Sami Zayn gets a WWE title shot at Royal Rumble

While WWE Champion Drew McIntyre has had his hands full with Cody Rhodes and Jacob Fatu, even getting involved in their match at tonight’s (Jan. 24, 2026) Saturday Night’s Main Event at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, WWE had a tournament working to find a new top contender. They got there with some qualifying matches that would lead into a Fatal 4-Way at the same show, with the winner getting a crack at McIntyre’s crown at Royal Rumble in just one week in Saudi Arabia.
Randy Orton, Trick Williams, Sami Zayn, and Damian Priest won those matches and they closed out the night with an awesomely chaotic struggle. At the end of that struggle, the man who has been chasing the title for what feels like forever booked his ticket to another shot.
None other than Sami Zayn.
Wade Barrett was sure to close things out with a statistic that will probably ring true at this time next week — Zayn has never defeated McIntyre. There’s little reason to think he will do so now, what with WrestleMania season in full effect and the unlikelihood of a title change on the same night a top contender will be crowned in the Royal Rumble.
Anything can happen but do you really think Zayn could win it?
It will be in Saudi Arabia, after all…
