Unattended luggage prompts evacuation at Miami International Airport

MIAMI — An unattended piece of luggage prompted an evacuation at Miami International Airport on Sunday afternoon, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded shortly after 5 p.m. to the departures area near Door 21, where the unattended luggage was reported.

As a precaution, authorities evacuated everyone in the immediate area.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad was called to the scene to investigate. Officials said there were no reported injuries during the evacuation.

MDSO confirmed Sunday evening that all areas are now open.
