Alabama targeting Big Ten assistant for offensive line job

Kapilovic was widely regarded for his work with offensive lines at Southern Miss, North Carolina, Colorado, and Michigan State over the past two decades in college football, holding the offensive coordinator title at UNC for a number of seasons from 2015-18, but Alabama ranked 125th this season un rushing offense at just over 104 yards per game despite an 11-4 finish to the season.
To remedy that, Kalen DeBoer is reportedly turning to a Big Ten staffer with NFL experience.
On3 reports today that Adrian Klemm has emerged as the prime target for the offensive line job with the Crimson Tide.
Klemm spent this past season as an analyst on Lincoln Riley’s staff at USC.
At just 48, Klemm has served as an offensive line coach at places like SMU, UCLA, and Oregon before he left Eugene for the opportunity to coach the New England Patriots offensive line in 2023 after interviewing for their offensive coordinator job in the weeks prior. He spent just one season with the Patriots, but that was not his only NFL stop, as he worked as the Steelers assistant offensive line coach for two seasons in 2019-20 before being elevated to offensive line coach in 2021.
A former second-round pick in the 2000 NFL Draft out of Hawaii, Klemm played under legendary head coach June Jones before joining his staff at SMU following stints on rosters for the Patriots, Packers and Raiders from 2000-07.
In addition to working with the offensive line, Klemm has held senior titles that include run game coordinator, associate head coach at both UCLA and Oregon back before the two schools joined the Big Ten and were members of the Pac-12.
Once finalized, the addition of Klemm will be just one of the changes taking place on the offensive side of the ball. The Tide also lost quarterbacks coach / co-offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan to Pat Fitzgerald and Michigan State, where Sheridan is now the offensive coordinator for the Spartans. The staff also lost co-offensive coordinator JaMarcus Shephard to the head coaching opportunity at Oregon State, where he took a number of key Tide staffers along with him.
The new hires will join offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb, who will enter his second season back with DeBoer after he spent a season in the NFL with the Seahawks as their offensive coordinator after they previously worked together at a number of stops including Sioux Falls, Eastern Michigan, Fresno State, and Washington.
