Most schools in New Brunswick are closed on Monday due to snowfall that began on Sunday and is forecasted to continue through to Tuesday morning.
All schools in Anglophone South, Anglophone East and Francophone South are closed.
In Anglophone West, schools are closed except for weather zones one and two, which cover Edmundston, Grand Falls, Plaster Rock and Perth-Andover.
Anglophone North has closed Bonar Law Memorial School, Eleanor W. Graham Middle School, Harcourt School and Rexton Elementary School.
The snowfall is mostly concentrated in the southern half of the province. Environment Canada has issued a yellow snowfall warning for the southeast, southwest and Fredericton as well as surrounding areas.
The warning forecasts a total of 20 to 30 centimetres of snow. It also says strong wind gusts may reduce visibility at times.
There is also a special weather statement for central New Brunswick, including Carleton and Kent counties.
The statement forecasts 10 to 20 centimetres of snow with higher amounts possible in some places.
Felicia Murphy — with Atkins Realis, which maintains the Trans-Canada Highway from just west of Fredericton all the way to the Quebec border — said the highway from Grand Falls down to Longs Creek is snow covered.
“There’s going to be times where snow is going to be falling extremely fast and heavy,” said Murphy.
“This may cause whiteout conditions on the highway. Conditions will likely become worse before they get better throughout the day.”
Travel is not recommended from St. Stephen to Saint John due to drifting snow, according to New Brunswick’s 511 road condition report.
The report also says that most highways and routes are either snow covered or partly snow covered.
Some roads, like Highway 10 from Fredericton to Chipman, are also seeing drifting snow.
Other routes have icy patches, including Highway 15 from Moncton to Shediac.
