Are Lubbock schools canceled, delayed on Monday? Here’s what to know

While the worst of Winter Storm Fern might be behind us, the impact is still being felt — especially on the roads.

Road conditions are being impacted in Lubbock and West Texas by snow and ice with fears of refreezing overnight as the region is not expected to reach above freezing temperatures until Tuesday.

This is prompting area schools and higher education institutions to cancel classes on Monday, Jan. 26. Here’s the list.

Lubbock area public schools

Abernathy ISD

Abernathy ISD has canceled classes on Monday, Jan. 26.

Brownfield ISD

Brownfield ISD has canceled classes on Monday, Jan. 26.

Floydada ISD

Floydada ISD has canceled classes on Monday, Jan. 26.

Frenship ISD

Frenship ISD has canceled classes on Monday, Jan. 26.

Idalou ISD

Idalou ISD has canceled classes on Monday, Jan. 26.

Levelland ISD

Levelland ISD has canceled classes on Monday, Jan. 26.

Littlefield ISD

Littlefield ISD has canceled classes on Monday, Jan. 26.

Lubbock ISD

Lubbock ISD canceled all classes for Monday, Jan. 26. All schools and administrative offices will be closed and district employees will have a planning day working from home. Meals will be provided to Lubbock ISD students from 10 to 11 a.m. at Coronado, Estacado, Lubbock and Monterey high schools.

Lubbock-Cooper ISD

Lubbock-Cooper ISD has canceled classes on Monday, Jan. 26.

New Deal ISD

New Deal ISD has canceled classes on Monday, Jan. 26.

Ralls ISD

Ralls ISD has canceled classes on Monday, Jan. 26.

Roosevelt ISD

Roosevelt ISD has canceled classes on Monday, Jan. 26.

Shallowater ISD

Shallowater ISD has canceled classes on Monday, Jan. 26.

Lubbock area private schools

Christ the King Schools

On-Campus Learning at CTKDS is closed on Jan. 26, with students to pivot to virtual learning for Monday.

Kingdom Preparatory Academy

Canceled all classes for Monday, Jan. 26.

Trinity Christian School

Canceled all classes for Monday, Jan. 26.

Harmony Science Academy Lubbock

Canceled all classes for Monday, Jan. 26.

Lubbock area colleges, universities

Texas Tech University

Texas Tech University has canceled all in-person classes, events and activities on the Texas Tech campus in Lubbock on Monday, Jan. 26

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center

Texas Tech University HSC has canceled all in-person classes, events and activities on the TTUHSC campus in Lubbock on Monday, Jan. 26

Texas Tech Physicians and TTUHSC Clinics will operate on a 10 a.m. delay.

Lubbock Christian University

LCU campus offices will be closed and in-person classes have been canceled for Monday, Jan. 26. 

South Plains College

South Plains College classes have been canceled for Monday, Jan. 26. 

Wayland Baptist University

The Wayland Baptist University’s campuses in Plainview, Lubbock, and Amarillo will be closed on Monday, Jan. 26. Employees should coordinate with their supervisors and work remotely.    All face-to-face classes will be delivered online. Faculty members should communicate their expectations with students through Blackboard and email. The campus dining hall in Plainview will remain open under normal hours.

Government and public offices

City of Lubbock

The City of Lubbock offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 26.

However, two libraries will remain open as warming centers to the public:

Mahon Library – 1306 9th Street

  • Monday: 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Groves Library – 5520 19th Street

  • Monday: 12:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Lubbock County

The Lubbock County Courthouse will have a delayed opening at noon Monday, Jan. 26. Lubbock County Commissioners Court will convene at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
