Nearly all public and private schools on Cape Cod and the Islands have called for at least a delay Tuesday morning after Sunday’s snowstorm, with three closing outright for a second snow day.

Some schools flipped a decision made the evening before, initially announcing school as usual, then posting a delay Tuesday morning. Districts cited bad road conditions from overnight snow drift and very cold temperatures – creating ice – and said the extra time was needed for cleanup and to make travel safe.

“Additional snowfall overnight has drifted into roadways and walkways and we want to give time for cleanup to ensure safe access,” the Monomoy Regional School District wrote on their Facebook page, echoing several other schools.

Sunday’s winter storm dumped over a foot of snow on some parts of Cape Cod. Other parts of the state saw close to two feet. Wind chill values Tuesday are predicted to get to -5 degrees, according to the National Weather Service, but no further snow is expected until Thursday, when there is a “slight chance” forecast.
