Jamie Laing has apologised to Sam Thompson for dating Sophie Habboo behind his back during their Made in Chelsea days.
Back when they were appearing on the E4 reality show, Sam and Jamie had a big falling out in 2019 when Jamie began dating Sophie. However, Sam had dated Jamie’s future wife for six months before they called it quits in 2018.
Jamie and Sophie tied the knot in 2023 in a civil ceremony in London before having a bigger celebration with their family and friends in Seville, Spain. The couple welcomed their first child Ziggy into the world in December, the pair took a break from their joint podcast to prepare for the arrival of their son.
On Wednesday (January 28), the latest episode of Jamie’s Great Company podcast saw Sam join him to talk about their time together on Made in Chelsea and how their friendship has evolved over the years.
During the episode, the pair talked about when Jamie decided to ring Sam to clear the air after completing his 150-mile Ultra Marathon challenge to apologise for dating Sophie without telling him
“After I finished my run, even though it’s bygones be bygones, I married Sophie, you came to my wedding, I phoned you up, and what did I say to you,” Jamie said.

Sam replied: “You went, ‘mate, I feel like I have never actually fully apologised to you for not being honest with you’. Which is so wild because it was years ago mate,
“Like I couldn’t have been happier for you guys four years ago, five years ago, however many years ago, but it’s so weird, because you said that and it made me really emotional.”
Sam went on to claim that Jamie ‘had a bit of a history for going after people’s exes and people’s girlfriends’ at the time. He recalled: “You were young, and we’ve all been there, and I remember saying to you afterwards ‘just please don’t do this one’, I was like please, and then it happened.
“Then I think it’s because you didn’t tell me, and I had to see it. I was like, dude, what the f***, you didn’t tell me, and then I was like, he’s just done the one thing.
“Cause at that time, I was like ‘that’s not gonna last, is he gonna throw away this for that’.’”
Thankfully, Sam doesn’t hold a grudge against Jamie over what happened due to him believing everything ‘happens for a reason’ and that the married couple were destined to be together.
“I said ‘you better goddamn get married’ and you goddamn got married! You goddamn got married, you goddamn had a kid, and it just worked out perfectly. I think sometimes things are meant to happen.
“I do think things happen for a reason, and I just think me not being on the show at that point, and you having the freedom and the space to really connect with somebody without the pressure of like one of my best mates being there.
“And what are the odds that I’m not there and you can actually seed and flower this really nice thing that turns out into a marriage,” he said.
