Charli XCX Wore John Galliano, YSL & Vivienne Westwood To The ‘Wuthering Heights’ LA Photocall & Premiere

Charli XCX’s role in Wuthering Heights is the creation of original music for the film’s score. Described as gothic and brutal, the work is a collaboration with producer Finn Keane and features a track with John Cale. Her presence at both the photocall and the premiere reinforces how integral the music is to the film’s emotional architecture, not just its atmosphere.

Photocall

This first look, a John Galliano Fall 2003 floral knit top paired with a YSL skirt, immediately set the tone. At first glance, it carries a romantic goth energy that feels entirely aligned with the film’s world. Rather than feeling styled for effect, it reads as part of the film’s visual language, while being in tune with her own style. Christian Louboutin Miss Z patent leather pumps completed the look.

Premiere

The premiere is where the story fully clicked into place. I have always felt that Vivienne Westwood is a natural fit for the British singer, and here the alignment feels especially precise. This film is built on contradiction, and the gown mirrors that tension perfectly. The corseted bodice pulls the body inward, while the exaggerated, ballooned skirt pushes outward. That opposition reflects Catherine Earnshaw’s inner conflict: desire versus duty, restraint versus impulse.

We have seen Charli lean heavily into black on many occasions, and that would have been an easy choice here. Instead, the gold and sandy tones soften the severity while retaining a sense of unease. The moody gothic charge comes less from the colour palette and more from her attitude, posture, and presence.

Stylist: Chris Horan.
