‘Ordinary’ Was Inspired By Singer Alex Warren’s Real Love Story with His Wife. Read the Lyrics

Alex Warren turned everyday love into the hit song “Ordinary.”
Released in February 2025, the song was practically everywhere in 2025, topping Billboard’s Hot 100 and being named as Billboard’s 2025 song of the summer. This is Warren’s first No. 1 hit song.
Warren debuted his first album, “You’ll Be Alright, Kid,” on July 18 with feature tracks from Jelly Roll and BLACKPINK singer ROSÉ.
Going into the new year, Warren reached a new milestone in 2026: his first Grammy nomination for best new artist. He will also perform at the award show on Feb. 1.
The 24-year-old did it all with the woman who inspired the song by his side. Warren tied the knot with YouTuber Kouvr Annon in 2024. At that point, couple had been together for four years. Warren decided to pursue a career in music after they both left Hype House, a content creator house.
Annon appears in the music video for the song, which shows him following her through a wooded landscape.

The Meaning Behind the Lyrics of ‘Ordinary’
“Ordinary” is a pop ballad about being deeply in love.
Warren makes his heavy emotions clear early on in the song as he sings, “Oh, my, my love/ I take one look at you/ You’re takin’ me out of the ordinary/ I want you layin’ me down ‘til we’re dead and buried.”
The song uses spiritual imagery and metaphors to describe the experience. In an interview with HITS, Warren said as he is a Christian and often uses biblical references in his music.
The chorus goes, “The angels up in the clouds are jealous knowin’ we found/Hopeless hallelujah/On this side of Heaven’s gate…At your altar, I will pray.”
As the song continues, Warren sings about how out of the ordinary this life-changing love is: “World was in black and white until I saw your light/I thought you had to die to find/Somethin’ so out of the ordinary.”
Warren shared on Instagram that he wrote the song about his wife.
“I wrote ordinary about my wife, my best friend,” he wrote. “It’s crazy to think that we’ve been together for almost 7 years.”
“This song is now number 1 everywhere and I can’t help but smile to know it’s about you,” Warren wrote. “It also reminds me that we’ve been together this long and I’ve never seen you run full speed.”
Warren told the music publication HITS more about the origin story of the song, which he co-wrote with Adam Yaron, Cal Shapiro and Mags Duval.
“We wrote that record about my relationship with my wife, Kouvr. We’re both 24, we met when we were 18, she slept in a car with me. I think it’s rare today to find true love, with phones and social media and all these different things. And so we wrote ‘Ordinary’ about how love is falling out, but we found something crazy,” he said.
In a TikTok video, Warren gently roasted Annon for not knowing the lyrics to the song. “I thought the lyrics said, ‘And I’ll my life I’ll do ya,'” she said in the video.
“I thought you were talking about getting freaky, and I was, like, ‘Damn, my mom listens to this,’” she continued.
The real lyrics go, “Oh, my life, how do ya?/ Breathe and take my breath away?”

They say, “The holy water’s watered down
And this town’s lost its faith
Our colors will fade eventually.”
So, if our time is runnin’ out
Day after day
We’ll make the mundane our masterpiece
Oh, my, my
Oh, my, my love
I take one look at you
You’re takin’ me out of the ordinary
I want you layin’ me down ‘til we’re dead and buried
On the edge of your knife, stayin’ drunk on your vine
The angels up in the clouds are jealous knowin’ we found
Somethin’ so out of the ordinary
You got me kissin’ thе ground of your sanctuary
Shatter me with your touch, oh, Lord, return mе to dust
The angels up in the clouds are jealous knowin’ we found
Hopeless hallelujah
On this side of Heaven’s gate
Oh, my life, how do ya
Breathe and take my breath away?
At your altar, I will pray
You’re the sculptor, I’m the clay
Oh, my, my
You’re takin’ me out of the ordinary
I want you layin’ me down ‘til we’re dead and buried
On the edge of your knife, stayin’ drunk on your vine
The angels up in the clouds are jealous knowin’ we found
Somethin’ so out (Out) of the ordinary (Ordinary)
You got me kissing the ground (Ground) of your sanctuary (Sanctuary)
Shatter me with your touch, oh, Lord, return me to dust
The angels up in the clouds are jealous knowin’ we found
Somethin’ so heavenly, higher than ecstasy
Whenever you’re next to me, oh, my, my
World was in black and white until I saw your light
I thought you had to die to find
Somethin’ so out of the ordinary
I want you laying me down ‘til we’re dead and buried
On the edge of your knife, stayin’ drunk on your vine
The angels up in the clouds are jealous knowin’ we found
Somethin’ so out (Out) of the ordinary
You got me kissing the ground (Ground) of your sanctuary (Sanctuary)
Shatter me with your touch, oh, Lord, return me to dust
The angels up in the clouds are jealous knowin’ we found
