Is ‘The Night Manager’ returning for a Season 3? What we know so far.

Tom Hiddleston talks new Stephen King movie ‘The Life of Chuck’

Tom Hiddleston talks about the rewards and challenges of starring in the new Stephen King film “The Life of Chuck.”

Tom Hiddleston’s Jonathan Pine may have left his titular hospitality jobs behind him in Season 2 of “The Night Manager,” but it appears his story is far from over.

In Season 2, Pine, who was living a “comfortingly uneventful” life and “thought he’d buried his past,” until one night when a “chance sighting of an old Roper mercenary prompts a call to action and leads him to a violent encounter with a new player.”

“It’s a beautiful title, but now it’s more metaphorical,” Hiddleston told USA TODAY. “He’s managing the darkness in the world and the darkness within himself. He has the courage to go under fire, in immense solitude, into the shadows of the night to uncover truth and chase it down.”

Based on John le Carre’s 1993 best-selling novel of the same name, the first season of “The Night Manager” follows ex-British soldier Jonathan Pine, who is “recruited by MI-6 to infiltrate the inner circle of a dangerous arms trader Richard Roper (Hugh Laurie),” according to the series’ logline on Prime Video. In Season 2, Pine is drawn into a deadly Colombian drama involving a new ruthless arms dealer posing as a humanitarian, Teddy Dos Santos (Diego Calva), and Roxana (Camila Morrone), an American businesswoman.

USA TODAY TV critic Kelly Lawler gave Season 2 ★½ out of four, writing: “Although it looks the same, the new ‘Manager’ doesn’t quite feel the same, as Pine goes undercover in a new operation, tries to take down another bad guy and conspiracy.”

“It’s all very been-there, done-that, especially as the story reveals silly connections to the original narrative. Unsurprisingly, the story based on one of the greatest authors of spy stories ever trumps the imitation,” she added.

Here’s what we know so far about Season 3 of “The Night Manager,” including release date.

Will ‘The Night Manager’ have a Season 3?

While Prime Video is yet to make an official announcement on Season 3 of “The Night Manager,” USA TODAY previously reported a renewal has already been greenlit, with playwright David Farr writing the script.

When will Season 3 of ‘The Night Manager’ be released?

A release date for Season 3 of “The Night Manager” is not yet known, though there will be no more decade-long delays after Season 2. The season will likely air after Hiddleston’s on-screen return as demigod Loki in “Avengers: Doomsday” (Dec. 18), USA TODAY reported.

Hiddleston told USA TODAY that there was a delay because the first season was expected to be a “complete story.”

“In 2016, there was a singular John le Carré novel to adapt,” Hiddleston said. “And we adapted it. So, there was no sequel. When we made it, we had expected it to be a complete story.”

However, shortly after le Carré’s death, Farr got inspiration for the series’ future “in the most strange way” and knew he had a story and “how to weave this into what happened in Season 1.”

“Suddenly, an energy arrived, and we decided to make it,” Farr told USA TODAY.

“The Night Manager” initially premiered in February 2016, while Season 2 arrived almost a decade later on Jan. 11.
