‘Music by John Williams’ Earns Best Music Film at the Grammys

The John Williams documentary Music by John Williams has just won the Best Music Film Grammy Award. This marks Williams’ 27th Grammy, out of 77 nominations.

The film, which is available on Disney Plus, was competing against Netflix’s DevoLive at the Royal Albert Hall, Diane Warren’s Relentless, and Pharrell Williams’ Piece by Piece. Furthermore, since Steven Spielberg is a producer on Music by John Williams, this marks the iconic director’s first Grammy, and also his elevation to EGOT status, having now won an Oscar, an Emmy, a Grammy, and a Tony Award.

Williams was set to retire a few years ago, but walked it back during the awards campaign for The Fabelmans. He’s scoring Spielberg’s next movie, Disclosure Day, which comes out in May.

In other Star Wars Grammy news, Outlaws missed out on the category of Best Score Soundtrack For Video Games and Other Interactive Media, to Austin Wintory’s music for Sword of the Sea. Rather than the main game, it was the two DLC packs, Wild Card and A Pirate’s Fortune, that were nominated for their combined video game score soundtrack. The base Outlaws game was also nominated for this category last year, but lost out to Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord‘s soundtrack.

Miguel Fernández is a Spanish student that has movies as his second passion in life. His favorite movie of all time is The Lord of the Rings, but he is also a huge Star Wars fan. However, fantasy movies are not his only cup of tea, as movies from Scorsese, Fincher, Kubrick or Hitchcock have been an obsession for him since he started to understand the language of filmmaking. He is that guy who will watch a black and white movie, just because it is in black and white.
