Nottingham Forest consider late move for star who was compared to Declan Rice at taking set-pieces

Nottingham Forest are busy trying to get players over the line on Transfer Deadline Day.
The Reds have added Lorenzo Lucca to the ranks so far, with the Italian giant an unused substitute against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Forest have seen Arnaud Kalimuendo and Douglas Luiz leave already during the transfer window and that has made the squad weaker to a certain degree.
Sean Dyche will hope to get new players into his squad before this evening’s deadline and now he’s targeting a player that he’s managed before.

Nottingham Forest want Dwight McNeil
According to Sky Sports reporter Rob Dorsett, Forest are considering a late play to try and sign McNeil from Everton.
McNeil was a regular in the team under Dyche, as he helped the club overturn a 10-point deduction and remain in the Premier League when he was handed the managerial position on Merseyside.
This deal will be hard to complete before tonight’s deadline, given that Everton won’t have a lot of time to get a replacement through the door.
McNeil was once praised by Chris Sutton, who claimed his set-pieces were just as good as Declan Rice’s back in 2024.
These days, McNeil has found himself being considered as a backup option in David Moyes’ squad, but has started six of the last seven in the Premier League.

McNeil would smack of desperation
At 26-years-old, McNeil isn’t of a bad age to come in at Forest to make an impact, but other than being able to take a decent set-piece, it’s not clear he’d be an upgrade.
McNeil can fill in across the pitch, but he’s perhaps considered a jack of all trades but a master at very few of them based on his performances with Everton.
The one good thing in hindsight is that McNeil was pretty impressive under Sean Dyche, but the last thing Forest want is to be signing a player like McNeil on a long-term contract.
Forest have a number of players in the positions that McNeil plays and he absolutely wouldn’t be an upgrade on anything the club currently has.
One thing is certain, this deal would be universally unpopular with the Forest fan base and in reality, the club would be better sticking with what they have over bringing McNeil to the club.
