Cindy Crawford and Richard Gere haven’t been on the best of terms since they divorced 30 years ago.
During a 2016 appearance on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast, the supermodel, 59, confessed that the Pretty Woman actor, 76, was “like a stranger” to her.
However, the estranged exes are trying to put that aside now that their respective children, Kaia Gerber and Homer Gere, are starring in a new TV show together.
“Cindy and Richard have kept their distance from one another over the last few decades,” a source tells Globe. “He’s a proud guy who has zero interest in relitigating the past and [she] can be pretty tough in her own right. But they’re dropping their defenses and playing nice and they’re doing it for the kids.”

Cindy and Richard were one of the “It” couples” of the ‘90s. They eloped to Las Vegas in 1991 and were married for four years before calling it quits in 1995.
The fashion icon has hinted in past interviews that their 17-year age-difference was to blame, but “to their credit, they have never descended into badmouthing each other,” says Globe’s source.
When penning her 2015 memoir Becoming, Cindy even chose not to include her relationship with the An Officer and a Gentleman star.
“It’s not something I want to share,” she explained of her decision, per People. “If I felt that there was a great good that could come of it, I might have shared more, but I didn’t think that there was anything for other people to learn or benefit from. And I wanted to be respectful.”

They’ve both remarried and had children of their own.
In May, Cindy will celebrate her 28th wedding anniversary with husband Rande Gerber, with whom she shares daughter Kaia, 24, and son Presley, 26.
Richard shares son Homer, 25, with his second wife, Carey Lowell, and also has two boys, Alexander, 6, and James, 5, with current wife Alejandra Silva.
“They certainly have not been quote-unquote friends, not at all, in the time since they split up,” Globe’s source admits. “But their children, Kaia and Homer, have formed a real bond while filming their Ryan Murphy miniseries The Shards and that has created a thaw in Richard and Cindy’s chilly relationship.”
At the end of the day, “this project is important to both families and it comes at a pivotal time in both Kaia and Homer’s careers,” notes the source. “No matter what happens, you have to put aside old beef and … cheer on the younger generation.”
