Laurie Hernandez to make Broadway debut in ‘& Juliet’

Olympic gold medalist Laurie Hernandez will make her Broadway debut in & Juliet this spring, performing at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre from March 17 to June 14 only.

Hernandez was part of the U.S. Women’s Gymnastics team at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, where she won a gold medal with the team and a silver medal individually. Hernandez later won season 23 of Dancing with the Stars and is also a Sports Emmy Award winner and author of two books.

In & Juliet, she will join the ensemble in the featured dance role of Charmion.

“I’ve always been such a Broadway fan, so to make my Broadway debut in & Juliet is a dream come true,” Hernandez said in a statement. “The show is so much fun to watch as an audience member, and I can’t wait to join this incredible cast and actually perform in the show each night.”

& Juliet picks up where Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet ends, imagining a new chapter where Juliet doesn’t die and instead seeks a second chance at life and love. The show is set to 30 pop hits written by Max Martin and made famous by artists like Britney Spears, the Backstreet Boys, Kelly Clarkson, and many more.
