The actor – who is also famous for roles in Shameless and Brassic – will play the recently reunited sisters’ long-lost dad for an episode later this month – but the door will be left open for his return.

Viewers have been desperately trying to work out the identity of the sisters’ controlling father – even speculating that he is really Graham Foster from Emmerdale.

Graham was the one who had kidnapped Jodie on behalf of a powerful and wealthy man.

Next week Shona will become convinced that Jodie is hiding something and ends up following her to a psychiatric hospital.

Making herself known there, Jodie tearfully introduces their confused, estranged father.

Jodie explains how she was left to care for him after their mother fled.

Shona is touched and assures Jodie she’s part of the family now.

However things are going to take a dark turn with Jodie determined to take over Shona’s life in a Single White Female inspired plot.

The dramatic events will kick off next week when Shona is left exhausted with baby Harper and life in general.

An exhausted Shona snaps at Lily as she’s banging on about a limited edition water bottle, leading David telling her to take the afternoon off.

When Shona reveals she’s thinking of visiting their Dad, Jodie manipulates her into a night out instead.

Later, at the Bistro, Shona rounds on Carl for flirting with Jodie, who feigns tears.

After plying Shona with alcohol, a calculating Jodie summons David to help carry his drunken wife home.

With Shona safely in bed, Jodie then persuades David to spend more time with her by watching a film.

Later in the week Jodie makes David a hot breakfast and packs him off to work.

But when he’s gone and she starts cleaning the house, she smashes David and Shona’s wedding picture – so is Shona in danger? Or should David be more worried?
