Huge pop star reveals he’s RETIRING his wild persona after UK tour as he ‘morphs into something different’

JASON DERULO has been a mainstay on the charts since he burst onto the scene with debut track Whatcha Say in 2009.

But the US singer-songwriter has said it’s time to say goodbye, as his current tour and album is the end of the pop star . . . as you know him.

He kicked off the most ambitious tour of his career at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro on Thursday night but said it marks a “retirement” of the version of the star that everyone knows and loves.

Sitting down with Bizarre’s Howell ahead of the first show, he opened up about why he has called it The Last Dance Tour, admitting: “It’s my last bow.

“It’s the curtain call for the Jason that you’ve always known.

“But it’s a celebration of the past and an introduction to what is to come.

“So it is a retirement of one version of me and the start of a new one.”

He has just dropped an eight-track album, The Last Dance (Part 1), and intends to introduce a new sound with the second instalment later in the year.

The Ridin’ Solo singer explained: “I’m a different human being than I was ten years ago. The music slowly does the same.

“It slowly starts to morph into something different and I want to do something completely different.

“But this first part is a bow to what I’ve done in the past and should feel nostalgic and have elements of me throughout the years. And the next half will be that dramatic change.”

On where exactly he is going though, he is keeping tightly lipped.

I’m really trying to just put on the best show that the world has seen

This first part of his career, stretching across 17 years, has seen him sell more than 250million singles worldwide and rack up five UK No1s.

But it is his new tour, which he is taking across the country and Ireland in the next nine days, that is his biggest and boldest ever.

Lighting up as he talked about it, he said: “The stage morphs, man. It moves. It changes into different worlds. There’s an incredible usage of AI.

“So it just takes you to a totally different planet from section to section.

“It is really immersive. It’s definitely way, way beyond anything that I’ve been able to do in the past and I couldn’t be more excited about it because you can have all of the right tools here and here, but those ideas can’t come to life with a specific budget.

“This is the show that I’ve always dreamed about.”

So does that mean the budget went out the window?

“Pretty much,” he replied. Ouch. “There’s few things in life that fulfil you and this is one of those things that does.

“I always say tours are purely for the fans.

“It’s purely for the people. It’s not some sort of financial gain that I’m trying to make.

“I’m really trying to just put on the best show that the world has seen.”
