James Arthur revealed he risked “long term damage” if he had battled on through his condition to perform at the city’s Motorpoint Arena.
In a statement posted on social media, the venue wrote: “Unfortunately James Arthur’s show in Nottingham, Tuesday 3rd February, has had to be postponed due to ill health.
“Fans should hang on to their tickets and details of a rescheduled date will be announced as soon as possible.”
It then included a personal message from the Say You Won’t Let Go hitmaker who wrote: “I am absolutely heartbroken to postpone this show but if I was to sing through this particular illness I would risk long term damage.

“It’s also so important to me to give you the best version of me on stage and a show you deserve.
“I am incredibly sorry for any inconvenience, this is the last thing I wanted to do, thank you for all the love and support and I promise I will make it up to you as soon as I can.
“Love JA xx”
He then went on to confirm the Glasgow show tonight, Wednesday, would still be going ahead.
He confirmed the Nottingham show was just “too soon for the meds to bring my voice back”.
James’ tour only kicked off earlier this week in Dublin.
After his show at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro he has a night off before performing in Newcastle on February 6.
Fans were less than impressed at the last-minute switch up.
One wrote on X: “Quality 8 hours before the gig.”
A second put: “Disgusting. Paid hundreds for travel, hotel, dog kennels and he’s fine to do tomorrow’s show!
“Daughters birthday present from September. Treats his fans like s**t.”
A third posted: “Surprise surprise seek to cancel at short notice quite often.”
Previously, James revealed he was rushed to hospital in agony before being diagnosed with kidney stones.
JAMES’ BATTLE
Last year James released album Pisces – which fans are bound to hear on the tour – following a series of personal struggles.
The singer, who won The X Factor in 2012, said: “Coming to a place of acceptance has been powerful for me. It means I’m in a place where I’m in touch with my feelings.
“And musically, I’m in a space where I wanted to try some different sorts of sounds.
“I’ve learned that living in the moment is the ultimate key to not having problems, because there’s things that we can’t control.”
His ease with himself comes from dealing with his mental health over the past few years.
He says: “I accept that I’ve got depression and ADHD and that I can be an anxious person.
“I’ve been through some stuff. I have CBT [cognitive behavioural therapy], which feels like maintenance. I have done bits of trauma therapy but, for me, delving so much into all that stuff can almost set you back.
“When things get on top of me I speak to my CBT therapist, which is vital for me.
“If I didn’t have this I would struggle massively to find a balance in my life because I have so many responsibilities”.
