Devils’ Jack Hughes won’t play Thursday against Islanders

The forward won’t suit up against the New York Islanders on Thursday as he continues to recover from a lower-body injury, according to Devils team reporter Amanda Stein.

Hughes suffered the injury in a Jan. 29 victory over the Nashville Predators in which he left after just 2:27 of ice time.

The Devils’ medical staff is not comfortable enough to allow Hughes to play, Stein adds.

Hughes is also supposed to head to Milan to compete for Team U.S.A. in the Winter Olympics. They have their first game against Latvia on Feb. 12.

The 24-year-old has 12 goals and 24 assists through 36 games this season. The Devils are seventh in the Metropolitan Division with 58 points.
