Bode Miller memories, Bormio course and Super Bowl LX analysis highlight U.S. men’s Alpine ski team Olympic press conference

Members of the U.S. men’s Alpine ski team spoke with the media on Thursday morning from the 2026 Olympics in Italy. Former Ski and Snowboard Club Vail athletes River Radamus and Kyle Negomir joined Ryan Cochran-Siegle, Sam Morse, Ryder Sarchett and Bryce Bennett.

On what his biggest accomplishment is

Negomir: “I think one of the biggest goals for a lot of us has been to have the opportunity to participate in one of the Games. And hopefully do more than participate, but really compete and put down a performance we can be proud of. So, hopefully something this week is going to be my biggest accomplishment.

On defending his super-G silver medal from Beijing

Cochran-Siegle: “I mean the only pressure I’m feeling is on myself. I think knowing I’m capable of putting down a pretty good run here and trying to just tackle that. So, at the end of the day, what I’ve been doing the last few days with my skiing is really just, you know, tactically, technically — all those things obviously matter — but also just finding a very fluid feeling from my skis to the snow.”

Looking ahead to Saturday’s downhill

Morse: “After (the) first training run, watching Ryan’s video was definitely really inspiring. He knew where he was going and he was driving into the turns, so that was kind of the approach I was trying to take today. Having better light today was really special. I’ve never skied that aggressive on Bormio. I took some pretty good risks. It was really fun to push myself on a track that is usually quite a bit daunting. Looks like we’ll probably have clouds on Saturday, and that’s OK.”

On his motivation

Radamus: “Last Games, I brought home two fourth places, so I’ve been thinking about redemption for basically the last four years. I’m hungry to see what I can do — see if I can step it up.”

On Bode Miller, Ted Ligety, Lindsey Vonn and other American legends

Radamus: “When the lights were the brightest, when we were at the Olympics or the World Championships, you knew that those guys were gonna show up and put on special performances, and I think that’s something that we all still sort of, you know, try to hold true.”

Cochran-Siegle: “I was actually talking with Ted about it this morning, saying how Bode’s 2005 run, everyone remembers when his ski came off in the combined, but it was actually the day before when he won the world champs downhill. That was like, actually one of those legendary runs. He set such a precedent for just reaching for the ultimate level. And, you know, I always grew up idolizing him.”

On putting the long boards on this week

Radamus: “Typically we’re coming here in December and it is dark and bumpy and icy. Now it’s just bumpy. But the surface is pretty good overall. It’s nice to be able to see where we’re going and I think we’re enjoying ourselves. I’m not racing the downhill, but it’s good to get some time on the track.”

On watching the Super Bowl

Cochran-Siegle: “I remember flying in 2018, and they actually had the game on the plane, which was cool. They lost to the Eagles, which was unfortunate, but, yeah, this time around, I’ll probably just be sleeping in my Drake Maye jersey, hoping that they’re scoring lots of touchdowns.”

On RCS’s football analysis

Radamus: “I would appreciate if anybody on this call could record and check how much time Ryan talked about the Patriots, and how much time Ryan talked about his skiing.”

On what he hopes to get out of his Olympic experience:

Negomir: “I think getting the chance to not just showcase your craft and your work that you’ve put in, but sort of the work and the sacrifice of everyone around us who’s made this possible. I think it’s pretty incredible to get to ski the Olympics, because even though it’s only, you know, me going down the track, I think it’s really a sense of pride for everyone along the way. All my friends I grew up training with, coaches who’ve helped me get here, my parents who sacrificed everything, my best friends (and) my partner.”
