Protesters rally outside Portland Mayor’s home calling for ICE facility shutdown

Activists with a local immigrant rights organization rallied outside the home of Portland Mayor Keith Wilson on Saturday, demanding the revocation of the ICE facility’s permit.

The protest, led by Portland Contra Las Deportaciones (PDXCD), began at noon. Leaders with the organization say they have been pleading with Wilson for months to shut down the facility.

“Because immigrants, protestors and residents of the south waterfront neighborhood have known no peace for the last year in their homes, PDXCD will be letting Mayor Keith Wilson know there will be no peace for him while he refuses to protect Portland from ICE,” the group wrote in a press release about the planned protest.

The site, located in the 4000 block of S. Macadam Ave. in the South Waterfront area, has been the epicenter for clashes between immigration officers, protesters, and city police officers.

The city issued a land use violation notice against the facility back in September 2025. In November 2025, the Portland City Council considered legislation to add fees for leasing to detention centers.

In early February 2026, Oregon lawmakers, led by U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden, called on the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to withdraw federal agents from Portland following an incident where agents used tear gas and other munitions on peaceful protesters.

A judge later issued a ruling restricting federal officers from using tear gas at protests “on people who pose no imminent threat of physical harm, or who are merely trespassing or refusing to disperse.” The judge also limited federal officers from firing munitions at the head, neck or torso “unless the officer is legally justified in using deadly force against that person.”
