Winter Olympics 2026: Zuzana Maderova wins surprise women’s snowboard parallel giant slalom gold, as Ledecká misses out on medals

In one of the biggest surprises of Milano Cortina 2026 so far, Zuzana Maderova claimed gold in women’s snowboard parallel giant slalom on Sunday (8 February) ahead of Austria’s Sabine Payer who won silver, and the home nation’s Lucia Dalmasso (bronze).

It was a third consecutive gold medal for Czechia in the event, but it was not hot favourite Ester Ledecká, who was aiming for a threepeat of Olympic gold medals, who claimed the title.

Ledecká was knocked out in the quarter-finals by Payer after an early error from the Czechia athlete.
