American High’s latest movie to get nationwide theatrical release

American High’s latest movie will get a nationwide theatrical release, a first for the Liverpool, N.Y.-based production company.
“Rolling Loud,” written and directed by American High founder Jeremy Garelick, will be shown in more than 2,000 theaters starting Sept. 18. Ketchup Entertainment announced Thursday it acquired domestic distribution rights to the film produced by Live Nation Studios and American High in collaboration with the Rolling Loud festival brand.
Based on a true story, the film follows “an overprotective father who makes the worst parenting decision of his life when he sneaks his 13-year-old son into Rolling Loud, the world’s biggest hip-hop festival, setting off a chaotic adventure with his reckless co-worker and an eccentric festival volunteer as they navigate wild crowds, security, and their own family dynamics.”
The cast includes Oscar-nominated actor Owen Wilson, superstar comedian Matt Rife, and veteran film and TV star Henry Winkler, with appearances from rap stars like Ty Dolla $ign, Sexyy Red and Ski Mask The Slump God. Scenes were shot at the Rolling Loud festival in Miami in December 2024.
“‘Rolling Loud’ was sparked by a chaotic real-life moment when I briefly lost my son at a music festival – an experience that was filled with anxiety, fear, and absurdity. This became a great party story and now a fun, ridiculous comedy that we’re incredibly excited to bring to theater audiences with our partners at Live Nation Studios and Ketchup Entertainment,” Garelick said in a statement.

“Rolling Loud is a bold, unapologetic comedy with real cultural credibility,” added Gareth West, CEO of Ketchup Entertainment. “Live Nation Studios brings unmatched access and authenticity to the project, and we see this as a true event-driven theatrical release that connects music culture and cinema.”
It’s the first American High film to receive a nationwide theatrical release, as most of its titles are exclusively streaming on Hulu in a multi-picture deal. It’s also the first American High production to not film any scenes in Syracuse.
Garelick launched American High in 2017 when he bought the former A.V. Zogg Middle School in Liverpool, turning it into a film studio focused on teen comedies. More than 20 movies have been shot in the Syracuse area under American High, which also produces American High Shorts and recently expanded to a second film production hub in Georgia called American High South.
Besides producing all of American High’s movies, Garelick has also worked as a writer for movies like “The Break-Up” and “The Hangover,” and directed titles like “The Wedding Ringer,” “Murder Mystery 2,” and “The Binge.”
“Rolling Loud” executive producers include Ryan Kroft and Michael Rapino for Live Nation Studios, Pasquale Rotella of Insomniac, Matt Zingler of Rolling Loud, Rife and Christina Shams. Producers include Garelick and Will Phelps for American High, as well as Doug Banker and Stella Bulochnikov.
A trailer for “Rolling Loud” has not yet been released.
