Tony Romo breaks down Sam Darnold and Drake Maye in Super Bowl LX

Tony Romo analyzes Sam Darnold and Drake Maye as the Super Bowl LX quarterbacks in a deep look at their journeys before their Super Bowl matchup.

Almost a decade after being selected with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Sam Darnold will become the first quarterback from his draft class to start a Super Bowl.

Darnold’s achievement comes in his first season with the Seattle Seahawks and after his 2024 breakout season with the Minnesota Vikings. He has played for four different teams over the last four seasons, and five across his NFL career, before landing in Seattle and finding his perfect fit.

Darnold will look to guide the Seahawks to their second Super Bowl championship after playing all but 44 offensive snaps during the 2025 NFL season and playoffs. That said, Seattle has an experienced backup waiting for action should be called upon on the NFL’s brightest stage.

Here’s what to know about the Seahawks’ quarterback depth chart behind Darnold for Super Bowl 60.

Who is the Seahawks backup quarterback?

Drew Lock is the Seahawks’ backup quarterback and will occupy that role behind Sam Darnold during Super Bowl 60.

Lock, 29, broke into the NFL after the Denver Broncos selected him in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He spent three seasons with the Broncos – and was the team’s primary starter in 2020 – but was traded to the Seahawks as part of the Russell Wilson deal ahead of the 2022 NFL season.

Lock has since spent three of the last four seasons with the Seahawks, intermixed with a brief stop with the New York Giants. Lock was a backup across all four seasons, spending the 2022-23 seasons behind Geno Smith, the 2024 season behind Daniel Jones in New York and the 2025 campaign as the top option behind Darnold.

Lock has a 10-18 career record across 28 career starts, most of which came with the Broncos. The Missouri product has completed 59.6% of his career passes for 6,369 yards, 34 touchdowns and 28 interceptions while adding 427 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground across 41 games.

Seahawks QB depth chart

The Seahawks will have three quarterbacks on their 53-man roster for Super Bowl 60. Below is a look at the pecking order within the unit:

  1. Sam Darnold
  2. Drew Lock
  3. Jalen Milroe

Milroe will be the Seahawks’ emergency third-string quarterback for Super Bowl 60. Seattle selected the Alabama product in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft and have used him sparingly during his rookie season.

Milroe played just three regular season snaps for the Seahawks and carried the ball on each of his snaps. He racked up four yards on three carries and did not attempt a pass.
