Logan Paul Defends Bad Bunny at Super Bowl After Jake Paul Protest

Logan Paul publicly opposed his brother, Jake Paul, on Super Bowl Sunday after Jake encouraged his followers on X to turn off their televisions during the Halftime Show in protest of Bad Bunny being the performer. Logan, a social media influencer turned WWE star, championed Bad Bunny on X soon afterward.
“I love my brother, but I don’t agree with this,” Logan wrote. “Puerto Ricans are Americans & I’m happy they were given the opportunity to showcase the talent that comes from the island.”
Shortly before the Super Bowl kicked off, influencer-turned-professional-boxer Jake Paul told his followers that “purposefully turning off the halftime show” would “show big corporations they can’t just do whatever they want without consequences (which equals viewership for them).”
“You are their benefit. Realize you have power. Turn off this halftime,” Jake continued. “A fake American citizen performing who publicly hates America. I cannot support that.”
Jake Paul lives in Puerto Rico. Amid backlash to his original statement, the boxer later clarified on X that he was not calling Bad Bunny a “fake citizen” because of his Puerto Rican roots but because of his decision to condemn ICE.
“To clarify: I wasn’t calling anyone a ‘fake citizen’ because they’re from Puerto Rico,” Jake wrote. “I live in Puerto Rico, and I love Puerto Rico. I have used my platform to support Puerto Rico time and time again and will always do so. But if you’re publicly criticizing ICE who are doing their job and openly hating on America, I’m going to speak on it. Period… If you benefit from a country and the platform it gives you, but publicly disrespect it at the same time, that’s what I mean by being a fake citizen. And I agree love is more powerful than hate. Love America.”
Jake Paul further clarified amid ongoing backlash: “Guys i love bad bunny idk what happened on my twitter last night ?? wtf”
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was one of the many people to call out Jake Paul for his original post. She posted on X: “A ‘fake American citizen?’ Didn’t you MOVE to Puerto Rico to avoid paying your taxes while kids across America go hungry? Meanwhile Benito actually funds low income kids’ access to arts and sports programs, while you defund them.”
Bad Bunny spoke out against ICE during the Grammys, where he won album of the year. In one of his two acceptance speeches during the telecast (he also won best música urbana album), Bad Bunny declared: “ICE out! We’re not savage, we’re not animals, we’re not aliens. We are humans and we are Americans… hate gets more powerful with more hate. The only thing that is more powerful than hate is love. So please, we need to be different. If we fight, we have to do it with love.”
Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl Halftime Show is his only U.S. concert appearance set for this year, as his Debí Tirar Más Fotos World Tour is not stopping in the States. Bad Bunny previously told I-D magazine that his fear of ICE raids was part of the reason why he skipped touring in the United States, saying that “fucking ICE could be outside [my concert]. And it’s something that we were talking about and very concerned about.”
