The death of a woman whose body was found in a burning central Edmonton home this week has been ruled a homicide, police announced on Tuesday.
Police said the death was deemed a homicide after an autopsy was performed earlier in the day.
Edmonton Fire Rescue Services responded to a residential fire in the area of 93rd Street and 105th Avenue at around 5:30 a.m. Monday. The fire was put out shortly after.
During an initial investigation, fire officials found a body in the residence. Police were then called to the scene.
An investigation into both the fire and the homicide is ongoing.
Police said they have not yet identified the woman who died. They added they are not releasing the cause of death at this time because of “investigative reasons.”
