Jason Momoa To Star In ‘Helldivers’ Movie Based On Video Game

Jason Momoa will star in PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures’ film adaptation of Helldivers, based on Arrowhead Game Studios’ video game franchise. Justin Lin will direct, and the pic will hit theaters on November 10, 2027.
The game debuted in 2015 and the sequel, Helldivers 2, sold more than 12 million units across PS5 and PC in the first four months after its 2024 launch. The game recently expanded to Xbox and continues to perform.
Helldivers 2‘s story centers around an elite unit of soldiers — known as Helldivers — who must battle alien creatures threatening to destroy the fictional planet of Super Earth.
Hutch Parker is producing with PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash, and Lin through his Perfect Storm Entertainment.
Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions previously worked together on Uncharted, starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg, which earned $407 million globally and is one of the 10 highest-grossing video game adaptations globally; Peacock’s hit series Twisted Metal; and the award winning The Last of Us for HBO.
It was recently revealed that Momoa will be playing intergalactic bounty hunter Lobo in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, in theaters June 26, part of a busy year for the leading action star. Currently, he stars opposite Dave Bautista in Amazon MGM Studios’ The Wrecking Crew on Prime Video. On May 1, he stars opposite Ryan Reynolds in Warner Bros/Legendary’s hybrid animated movie Animal Friends. He’s also taking on the iconic role of Blanka in Legendary/Paramount’s Street Fighter out October 16 and returns as Duncan Idaho in Warner Bros/Legendary’s Dune: Part Three on December 18.
Momoa previously played Aquaman in Warner Bros’ DC universe across two movies directed by James Wan. He starred as Dante in Fast X, which Lin wrote and produced. Last year, Momoa starred in Warner Bros/Legendary’s near $1 billion grossing A Minecraft Movie, arguably the first movie to wake up the 2025 global box office. He is also known for portraying Khal Drogo on HBO’s Games of Thrones.
He most recently starred and co-created Apple TV+ limited series Chief of War.
Currently, Helldivers is the only major studio wide release on the November 10 date.
