Fort McMurray firefighters rescue dogs from burning house

Fort McMurray firefighters were able to rescue two dogs from a burning Timberlea area home early Saturday evening, Feb. 7.
Shortly before 5:30 p.m., the Regional Emergency Services 911 Dispatch Centre received a report of a house fire on Fireweed Crescent. Two pumper crews, an aerial ladder unit, as well as EMS paramedics and RCMP responded to the scene.
As responding firefighters arrived, visible fire was breaking out through ground floor windows, and the front patio of the building was largely involved in fire.
Crews entered the building and attacked the fire directly while rescue teams began an interior search. Firefighters safely rescued two dogs during the search.
The fire was reported to be under control just before 6:30 p.m. Firefighters remained on scene until after 8 p.m. to ensure the fire was out.
No people were in the home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported. The home received serious fire, water, and smoke damage throughout.
Fire investigators were on the scene on Saturday evening and again on Sunday to determine the cause. It remains under investigation.
