‘Gripping’ new 8-part crime thriller looks like a must-watch

Prime Video has unveiled the trailer for its upcoming forensic crime thriller, Scarpetta, starring Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis – and it looks gripping.

The new trailer gives a glimpse of Nicole in the lead role as Dr. Kay Scarpetta, the iconic character from Patricia Cornwell’s bestselling book series, which has sold over 120 million copies worldwide.

Billed as a “gripping, multi-layered thriller,” the eight-part series is told across two timelines: from Scarpetta’s early career as a Chief Medical Examiner in the late ’90s to the present day.

In the trailer, Scarpetta returns to her hometown, resumes her former position, and investigates a gruesome murder that bears a stark resemblance to a case from her early career.

“I came back to this job because I didn’t like the way I left things last time around,” she says in the trailer. “This case and my first one, there are too many commonalities for them not to be connected.”

Viewers are in for a treat with this one. Not only is the cast led by Oscar winners Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis (The Bear), but Liz Sarnoff, who has producer and writer credits on award-winning dramas Lost and Barry, is the showrunner.

What to expect from Scarpetta

The series centres around medical examiner Dr. Kay Scarpetta, who with “skilled hands and an unnerving eye,” is determined to serve as the voice of the victims, unmask a serial killer, and prove that her career-making case from 28 years prior isn’t also her undoing.

The synopsis continues: “Set against the backdrop of modern forensic investigation, the series delves beyond the crime scene to explore the psychological complexities of both perpetrators and investigators, creating a multi-layered thriller that examines the toll of pursuing justice at all costs.
