Is Your Car One of Millions with Takata Airbags That Are Under a ‘Do Not Drive’ Warning?

The Takata airbag safety recall is considered one of the most complicated and wide-ranging in the history of the United States. It officially began back in 2008, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates that it involves 67 million airbags used in tens of millions of vehicles in the U.S. alone. After prolonged exposure to humidity and high temperatures, when the defective airbags deploy during an accident, they can explode and cause serious injuries and even deaths.
As a result, NHTSA and automakers have issued several recalls over the years, including “Do Not Drive” warnings for specific vehicles, which have a much greater risk of exploding airbags and should be immediately repaired. However, there are still countless vehicles on the road that have not been fixed, with the most recent reminder coming as Stellantis—Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, etc.—has issued another “Do Not Drive” warning for roughly 225,000 older vehicles that remain unrepaired. Those, along with the high-risk models from other automakers, are part of the list below, which can also be found on NHTSA’s website:

His aspiration growing up was to become a millionaire with a Jay Leno–like car collection. Apparently, getting rich is harder than social-media influencers make it seem, so he avoided financial success entirely to become an automotive journalist and drive new cars for a living. After earning a journalism degree at Central Michigan University and working at a daily newspaper, the years of basically burning money on failed project cars and lemon-flavored jalopies finally paid off when Car and Driver hired him.
