John F. Ross Collegiate Vocational Institute is closed Thursday as Guelph Police investigate a reported threat against the school.
In a statement on the school’s website, principal Chad Warren said the school was placed in hold and secure early Thursday morning as a precaution.
Police continue to investigate and the school will remain closed to students and staff for the day.
“This decision was made out of an abundance of caution to ensure the safety of our school community,” Warren wrote.
A hold and secure is typically used when there is a potential threat outside the school. Exterior doors are locked and no one is permitted to enter or leave the building.
The board is asking students and staff to shift to remote learning Thursday, were possible.
Warren acknowledged the situation may be concerning for families and said the school will continue to work closely with police and provide updates as more information becomes available.
“The safety and well-being of students and staff remains our top priority,” he said.
Guelph Police have not yet released further details about the nature of the reported threat.
