Bloomington developer takes over former AMC theater

The former eastside AMC theater property has sold for nearly $5.3 million. Here’s what to know.
Where is the former AMC theater on the east side?
It’s at 1351 S. College Mall Road. The property covers nearly 8 acres and is northeast of the intersection of East Moores Pike and South College Mall Road/South Sare Road.
When did Bloomington’s former AMC theater close?
AMC closed the theater in September 2023, in part because of the facility’s age and maintenance costs.
An AMC spokesman said at the time the chain “routinely reviews the theatres in our circuit, as well as opportunities outside of our circuit and makes decisions based on what will best strengthen the company going forward.”
When did the former AMC property get sold?
Property records show the property was sold Jan. 30.
Who bought the former eastside movie theater?
Curry Limited Partnership of Bloomington bought the property for $5,280,000. The property most recently was assessed at $1.6 million, though the previous owner, NNN REIT LB, formerly known as National Retail Properties LP, of Orlando, had bought it for $6.3 million in 2007.
Who is behind Curry Limited Partnership?
According to filings with the Indiana Secretary of State’s office, the Curry Limited Partnership was created in 1998. Its registered agent and general partner is Cary K. Curry, whose address is listed as 2906 E. Buick Cadillac Boulevard, the location of the Curry Auto Center, which is about a half mile north of the former theater. Cary Curry is chairman of the board of Curry Auto.
The partnership also owns the property that houses Morgenstern Books.
What does the new owner plan to do with the property?
Joseph Curry, a limited partner in the Curry Limited Partnership, said the new owners have had “a few discussions” about what to do with the former AMC theater property, but “At this time, there are no plans.”
“Stay tuned,” he said.
