Snow is lurking for much of Alberta with up to 25 cm in the forecast

Much of Alberta has been lucky with the weather this February; however, some parts of the province have some serious snow in the forecast soon.
We we warned earlier this week by Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) meteorologists to expect winter to return to Alberta, and now it’s seeming like many Albertans will be looking for their snow shovels in a matter of days.
Looking at the ECCC Significant Weather Outlook, a large portion of Alberta is at risk of seeing some snow on Tuesday, Feb. 17.
Areas including Edmonton, Calgary, Red Deer, Lethbridge, and Medicine Hat are at risk of seeing snowfall amounts in the five to 15 centimetre range, according to the outlook.
Another area in eastern Alberta, stretching from east of Edmonton and Calgary to the Saskatchewan border, and south to nearly Medicine Hat and north to around Cold Lake, may see 15 to 25 centimetres of snow.
ECCC Significant Weather Outlook
Looking at the major city centres in Alberta, the risk of snow is in the cards as we kick off next week, with daytime highs also plummeting in Edmonton and Calgary, and overnight lows dipping into the -20s, too.
Edmonton forecast
Environment and Climate Change Canada
According to ECCC, the average high for Edmonton around this time of year is -3°C, while the average low is -13°C.
Calgary forecast
Environment and Climate Change Canada
According to ECCC, the average high for Calgary around this time of year is zero, while the average low is -12°C.
With the cold snap in Alberta expected to last a decent amount of time, we’ve got some of the best things to do this month in Edmonton and the best things to do in Calgary. May as well start planning out those chilly days!
