Canada elected to bat first and made a solid start, scoring 50/0 in powerplay, including 18 runs off the sixth over. Yuvraj Samra, a big-hitting southpaw much like his namkesake Yuvraj Singh, struck three consecutive fours off James Neesham and then ended the over with a six over deep cover.

The 19-year-old cantered to his first T20 World Cup 50 in 36 balls, giving Canada the best start in the tournament so far. With Samra going strong at 77, with five sixes and seven fours, Canada have raced to 116/1 in 14 overs.

Daryl Micthell is leading the New Zealand team in place of Mitchell Santner, who is unwell.
