Weekend recap and Carnival moments

The Krewe of Bacchus rolled Uptown Sunday night. Former Saints quarterback Drew Brees rode in a custom float as the krewe celebrated his Pro Football Hall of Fame election. Actor Patrick Warburton served as Bacchus, the god of wine.

In the French Quarter, musician Amanda Shaw won the 56th annual greasing of the poles competition at the Royal Sonesta on Bourbon Street.

Officials also reported multiple enforcement moments tied to parade safety this season. New Orleans police said all riders on Float 32 in the Krewe of Thoth parade were removed after reports of aggressive throwing toward federal agents.

The city has also emphasized consequences for dangerous behavior along routes. Mayor Helena Moreno said NOPD will remove, cite or arrest anyone participating in dangerous or criminal behavior and said floats can be emptied if a participant’s actions put others at risk.

Wildlife agents arrested a convicted felon early Feb. 14 after they said he carried a live alligator through crowds on Bourbon Street and was found with a firearm and marijuana.

Community spotlight

Mardi Gras Day also aligns with Lunar New Year this year, and the majority-Asian Krewe of Zodiac is set to roll with the Krewe of Argus in Metairie.

On the Northshore, a Covington parade pause turned into a proposal along the Krewe of Olympia route.
